Or maybe I should be saying hello to the past? Either way... don't you worry. It may have been more than 11 months since my last post, but I assure you, I have continued to screw around at work in style. ;)
Facebook, Castle Age, Twitter, random blogs, lots of on-line shopping... what is a girl to do? Oh, right... work. Well, I do that sometimes, too.
But not for the next four days - because tomorrow kicks off the happiness extravaganza known as Comic-Con... and I will be there in all my geeky glory... except part of the day Saturday when I will be Zombie Walking my way across town. (Even better, in addition to professional zombie hair and makeup, I get to sport some stylish threads from Iron Fist and really make a day of it!)
And the real reason I felt super compelled to post today? After being away for almost a year? Today in the mail I got an autographed copy of Neil Gaiman's 10th anniversary edition of American Gods. And I just had to put it next to my autographed leather-bound copy of Season of the Mists for a picture I call - Evolution of an Autograph. Both are fantastic, but the Season of the Mists one is obviously more special (and exhibits a greater level of utter nerd-dom).
And now to go do a little planning for how to make the most of Day 1 at Comic-Con... lots of zombie trinkets to track down and fascinating panels to take in!

Thursday Afternoon
The time today just seems to be dragging... the day started with a flurry of productivity, but the last couple of hours seem to have just floated by - without even coming across anything all that exciting on line...
There is some more Doctor Who fun - this time in Lego. Plus the added bonus of Matt Smith hopping on stage with Orbital to close out the show with the Doctor Who theme... not great, but amusing, and I'm sure it would have been awesome to be in the audience. (Not that I'm likely to be at an Orbital performance.)
On to more practical things, I've also been looking into safe cosmetics. A.) Because my daughter has had some serious skin issues in the last few months and B.) because I stumbled across this video - highlighting some concerns about the toxicity of most personal care products... just something to keep in mind when dousing oneself in products each morning.
Sigh... just learned that yesterday's viral story on the girl who quit via email and dry erase messages was all a hoax... ah well, still a pretty funny bit. I knew the 19.7 hours a week on Farmville was a little unrealistic... ;)

Midweek - Monday
Going out of town on Monday and Tuesday makes for a very disjointed Wednesday... on the plus side, the week is already half over.
Right off the bat, I had to catch up on the latest episode of The Guild (which involved rewatching the first three episodes, but at 5 minutes a pop - not really a big deal). And of course I needed my True Blood fix. (Internet at the hotel was too slow and couldn't sustain video...)
The lack of new Doctor Who episodes is kind of killing me... but a Simpsonized version, while amusing in the moment, would probably not live up to my hopes and expectations.
And while I trudged through some truly awful TV (read The Bachelor Pad), I couldn't help but wonder at just how sad and white trash the world can be. Seriously, did you see the crazy lady who freaked out about McDonald's not having chicken McNuggets at 6:00am?
On a lighter and mostly unrelated note, much of my internet wandering focused on recipes for an upcoming potluck brunch at work next week. Quiche? Breakfast casserole? The old standby - baked french toast? Clafoutis? Too many options...

This *Week* at Work
So this *week at work* I guess I was trying to actually work or something... well, work and catch up on my television viewing... new episodes of Lie to Me and Psych managed to sneak by me, and Monday mornings always start out with the latest True Blood.
Some of the highlights of the week would have to include:
Quality Star Wars Art - including an At-At Cat;
A decision tree for choosing the best font;
and some old time ad campaigns for Facebook, YouTube and Skype.
And, of course, there was the great news on the Prop 8 ruling, and the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.
On a more whimsical note, I was also busy learning about paper cutting and looking up various recipes that could be called "food of the gods" - all in preparation for the next diorama club.
Overall a good week... though next will be even better, as I'm ditching out of work Monday and Tuesday and heading over to Disneyland - California Adventures, instead.

Friday Afternoon
As foreseen yesterday, today was dominated largely by Season 4 of Dexter. (Way too early for a re-airing as the new season won't be out until September 26, and I already know I'm going to have a dissatisfying cliffhanger at the end of Season 4.) - The opening credits always make me hungry... I know the images of Dexter making his breakfast are supposed to remind us of his violent serial killer ways, but it also makes me want steak and eggs... mmm breakfast (and I don't even eat steak).
I've also been trying to acquire a few episodes of Season 1 of Castle so I can try to get my kid hooked on it too... I actually started out with the most recently uploaded episode of Leverage. Why do so many shows wait a week or more to put episodes online?
Catching up on the (not so) epic lawsuit between Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane. I cannot decide if it's an interesting discourse on copyright or if it's just sad to see that some of the comic book greats make as awful of choices as the rest of us.
Random tangents led me to the Webventures of Justin & Alden. Pretty amusing little 5-part web series. I like the trend of web series. So many wonderful shows get pulled from networks with little or no explanation, but the internet allows independent writers/directors share their vision on a shoestring budget and with little or no oversight from humorless executives.
I think I need to make pizza cats this weekend... :)
Watching: Dexter Season 4
Working on: Opinion letter and researching administrative code sections.
P.S. Check out adora-puppy... too squee not to smile.

Wil Wheaton's Birthday
Today at work was all about Wil Wheaton's birthday and continuing to work my way through Season 3 of Dexter. Wil Wheaton, as you may know, is extremely prolific on Twitter, and as an icon of modern geek/techie-nerd culture, he was getting all kinds of amazing nerdom love today. My favs had to be this drawing of the Enterprise in a bottle and the caricature accompanying Wired's birthday shout out to Wil. Like a fun game of I-Spy, the picture can keep you entertained for a while trying to figure out what all of the pieces mean... and I assure you, they all mean something.
I was also busy putting my "new" laptop (read: old system with a wiped hard drive) through its paces... most importantly - getting a new wallpaper and trying to remember all of my favorited links. Oh, and organizing my email, trying to find/download a bunch of files and documents I lost, and starting the painful process of rebuilding my time logs from the last three weeks.
Not forgetting that I was technically at work, I also played around with powerpoint, trying to master the fine art of using the drawing tools to create a timeline. (Which is why I got to bill an hour and a half for revisions that really should have taken a little less than half an hour.)
Tomorrow looks to be filled with Season 4 of Dexter and trying to keep myself sane while I go through emails and phone records to come up with some cobbled together form of timekeeping for the past month.

At Home for the Day
Today at work... well I worked from home. So I actually got to take a nap later in the afternoon, which was nice as I was up way too late last night per my usual. I was also pretty good about trying to recreate my lost document from yesterday and starting on some new research. All while watching the first few episodes of Season 3 of Dexter.
I had another magical cupcake today... okay, I might have had two (it was a long day), but this one was the most magical of all.
I spent a good part of the day lamenting the loss of the old school dial-up bulletin board systems (BBS). Trying to track down some of the old boards I use to log on to in the Boulder/Denver area I stumbled upon The BBS Documentary. God, I'm such a nerd... but I enjoyed the first section, on the history of the BBSes, and I'm looking forward to watching the next section tomorrow - SysOps and Users.
